RONALDO IS ENTITLED TO BALLON D'OR - DROGBA

The Impact Montreal striker, Didier Drogba believes that Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo is worthy of winning the FIFA Ballon d’Or following his achievements with Real Madrid and Portugal.


The Portugal Internationalcame as the first runner-up behind long-time rival and Barcelona star, Lionel Messi in the competition for the BallonD'or award in 2015, but the Ivory Coast international insists Cristiano Ronaldo has done more than enough this time around to reclaim the prize which he deserves.

The Portugal international won the Champions League with Real Madrid in May, before proceeding to the EURO 2016 to help his country Portugal win their first major title, Euro 2016 where they beat the hosts France 1-0 after extra time in the finals.

"I played against Cristiano in the 2008 Champions League final that Manchester United won,"Didier Drogba told the official Real Madrid website during their pre-season tour to Montreal where he currently is. "He's a real leader and he deserves to win the Ballon d'Or for his great performances both for Real Madrid and the country side, Portugal.

The Ivorian made it clear that although Cristiano was not on the pitch till the final whistle due to injury picked up in 25th minute and was replaced by Ricardo Quaresma, he was still among the inspiration behind the match and also the main reason why they got that far in the tournament.

Ronaldo found the net 35 times in 36 Spanish La Liga appearances for Real Madrid last season, while adding 16 more in 12 Champions League matches. He netted three times for Portugal at Euro 2016 to scoop up the Silver Boot.

He has previously won the Ballon d’Or three times, 2008, 2013 and 2014. He is working towards winning the award again as his performance gets better and better.
