The Red Devils were handed a vibrant start by Scotland international Scott McTominay who found the back of the net off the assist from Ronaldo after just eight minutes on the clock. Burnley gave themelves too much work to do when skipper Ben New put through his own net on 27 minutes and the task got harder eight minutes later with the third Manchester United goal from Ronaldo as the aforementioned McTominay returned the favour to him with an assist. Burnley pulled one back on 38 minutes but that proved to be mere consolation after the two teams failed to score in the second half.
