Dani Alves Says Media Twisted the Words of Cristiano Ronaldo at Ballon d’Or awards

Former Barcelona defender Dani Alves says that the media have twisted the words of Cristiano Ronaldo and have made him look like a staunch enemy to the Brazilian – especially at the FIFA Ballon d’Or award ceremony.

Ronaldo managed to win a fourth Ballon d’Or title by beating Lionel Messi to the crown. He is just one behind the Argentine superstar. However, there has been a lot of talk that Ronaldo has been receiving unfair treatment when he is on poor form, like Lionel Messi, who does not get the same amount of stick.

Alves played alongside Messi and he says that it is important to accept that one of the disadvantages of being the best player in the team is that blame should also be taken on the chin when it comes their way. Ronaldo seems to be suffering with this attribute, as he has not been up to his best in the current campaign.

Yet, Ronaldo had an incredible summer after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid and going on to win the Euro 2016 with Portugal. More than his individual performances, these two titles were a major factor in the 32-year-old being crowned as the best player in the world for 2016.

“I still think he is displaying a lot of quality. But that's the problem when you are... how can I say it without offending... when you are too much the protagonist this happens. When you are the main protagonist there are two things that occur - when the team wins they always talk about you and they always put you ahead of the rest, and when you lose you will take the blame. When the team doesn't play well it's your fault, when they don't win it's your fault, everything is your fault,” said Alves.
