Petite Argentine national team captain Lionel Messi is widely regarded as the best player of his generation and he's in the middle of a high profile transfer to Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the French Ligue 1.

Messi completed his much talked about transfer to PSG on Tuesday evening and he was presented to the fans on Wednesday morning.

The free transfer signing of Messi means that PSG now has a fearsome attacking trio. Those three attackers are Brazilian international Neymar, French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe and Messi.

PSG have been wining league titles in the past seasons but the Champions League title has been elusive till date. The addition of Messi to the PSG squad will raise Champions League title hopes further. The fans would be delighted with the quality in the PSG fans and that it would be enough to win the Champions League title for the first time.

French football in general has suffered when it comes to both the European Cup and the Champions League. Only Marseille have won the competition and that singular triumph came in 1993.

Lionel Messi is widely seen as the leader in the race for the FIFA Ballon d'Or Award this year after a sensational Copa America tournament that saw him lead Argentina to their first title in almost three decades. It remains to be seen how his free transfer move from Barcelona to PSG will have an impact on his chances of taking the FIFA Ballon d'Or Award.

Winning the FIFA Ballon d'Or Award this year might depend on how quickly he settles into his new surroundings in Paris. If he keeps his performance level from the start of the year, it would be difficult to keep him away from winning the award ahead of other challengers like Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich, Jorginho of Chelsea and others.
