There have been a number of competitors for the award this season, which has been owned by the Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi for the past three seasons. The Argentine has scored 91 goals in all competitions for Barcelona in the calendar year, but he faces stiff competition from the likes of Iniesta and Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, it is primarily thought that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to sign a new contract that would make him the best paid player in the world. He is already earning around £ 7 million net of taxes, which is already costing Real Madrid a lot of money.

RONALDO WOULD BE HONOURED

The Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo has said that it would be extremely honourable to receive the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for the second time in his career. The former Manchester United star has already won the FIFA Ballon d’Or award once in his career when he was playing for Manchester United.

Even though he has scored a lot of goals for Real Madrid in the last few seasons, he has been consistently outplayed by Lionel Messi when it comes to winning this award. However, this time around the Real Madrid have won the league title, while Barcelona have not won anything.
