Could Griezmann or Pogba Ever Win the Ballon d’Or?

Since 2008, there have been only two winners of the Ballon d’Or. Cristiano Ronaldo has won the prestigious award four times and Lionel Messi has clinched it on five occasions in the past nine years. With the Real Madrid ace and the Barcelona forward going strong at the moment, it is hard to see anyone breaking the duopoly anytime soon.

However, Ronaldo and Messi cannot go on forever and there will come a time when they would have to hang up their boots. The Portugal international turns 32 in February, while the Argentina international will be 30 by the time the 2017-18 season starts. Someone else will have to win the Ballon d’Or in the coming years. Could it be Antoine Griezmann or Paul Pogba?

Cristiano Ronaldo Proud to Win the Fourth Ballon D’Or Award

Cristiano Ronaldo has managed to win his fourth Ballon d’Or award as expected.

After being crowned as the Champions League winner with Real Madrid and going on to lift the Euro 2016 with Portugal, Ronaldo was an overwhelming favourite for the title ahead of Lionel Messi. It was not a disappointing campaign for Messi by any standards, but he was able to win only the league title. As a result, he has fallen behind for the 2016 award. However, he manages to retain the lead over Ronaldo in the overall standings after having won a record five Ballon d’Or titles.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has backed Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d’Or awards this year.

The Portuguese player is in pole position to pick up the award after an impressive year for club and country. Real Madrid won yet another UEFA Champions League, making the second in three years after they had lifted their tenth in 2014. Ronaldo captained Portugal to their first major title in decades as they lifted the Euro 2016 in France this summer. Ronaldo’s contributions were immense, sparking the debate that the award was sure to name him the best in the game.

FIFA Ballon d’Or Award Makes a Player Selfish, says Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has made a bold statement that the FIFA Ballon d’Or award makes players become more individualistic in their approach.

The award, which was formed as a unification of the Ballon d’Or award and the FIFA world Player of the Year title, is given out to the best player at the end of each calendar year. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have dominated this award since its inception. No other player has managed to win the title with Kaka being the last player to be crowned as the world’s best apart from this duo.

Marcelo Defends Ronaldo in the Argument with Xavi

Former Barcelona star Xavi and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo were recently in a war of words.

Xavi suggested that Lionel Messi was far superior to any other player on the planet and that included Ronaldo. The statement did not go down well with Ronaldo, even though the player has seen numerous such comparisons over the years. Messi is currently in the world record holder when it comes to the FIFA Ballon d'Orawards. However, the Argentine has managed to win fifth in his career Ronaldo is not far away with three already.

“Jose Mourinho always spoke really high of Bastian, he really respected him as a person and a player, but as a coach you have to make decision. He made his decision and of course it’s hard for Bastian to accept because he’s a great player with a fantastic history for himself and a nice person,” Ballack told talkSPORT.

City and Liverpool set for Wembley repeat?

Last season, Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero was the hero as Manuel Pellegrini’s men defeated Liverpool on penalties to win the Capital One Cup, now known as the EFL Cup.

And to be fair, both clubs look like they could be destined for another Wembley trip this season, especially if they can maintain their excellent league form throughout the duration of the domestic campaign.

City are unbeaten under Pep Guardiola and the Blues have already developed an imposing lead at the top of the Premier League table. Sergio Aguero is in fine form, with nine goals in just five matches in all competitions and the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Fernandinho are profiting from the Spaniard’s unique methods.

Jose Mourinho reckons Paul Pogba may never be able to clinch Ballon d’Or

Jose Mourinho reckons Paul Pogba may never be able to clinch Ballon d’Or because he doesn’t match the goal scoring tally of some of the other players in the world.

As per Mourinho, Pogba’s primary job is not to shake the net, but, to set the play and in doing that, he is an absolute expert. Probably nobody can match him in that department at this point, but, if his goals’ tally is four times lesser than someone else, he can’t win himself the Golden ball because the general philosophy is that whoever has the maximum no. of goals is better than the rest.

Barcelona superstars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez would be squaring up against each other when Argentina take on Uruguay during the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers at the international break, with the winner possibly taking the advantage in the Fifa Ballon D'Or stakes. Uruguay are on top of the standings, while Argentina place third.

The game is going to be crucial to their qualifying hopes, but the emotional feel makes it special after the last meeting between both sides. At the Copa America Centenario this year in the United States, Uruguay were knocked out by Argentina in the group stage. The game left Suarez angry as he couldn’t play in the game.
