UCL: BENZEMA BOOSTS BALLON D'OR BID

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has boosted his FIFA Ballond'or bid after winning the UEFA Champions League (UCL) title with his team. The Frenchman led the attack as Real Madrid beat Liverpool in the final in Paris to win the competition for the 14th time. With the UCL win in Paris, Benzema is now the overwhelming favourite to win the FIFA Ballond'or. The ex-Lyon striker was unable to score against Liverpool during the final which ended in a 1-0 win for Real Madrid. However, ending on the winning side has made him the favourite to win the award at the end of the year.

Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has boosted his bid to win the FIFA Ballond'or this year after he played a part in the FA Cup title triumph enjoyed by his team on Saturday. Senegalese international Mane is one of the major contenders for the FIFA Ballond'or as he has had a phenomenal year. The other major contenders for the FIFA Ballond'or this year are Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) attacker KylianMbappe.

Football pundits are convinced that 2022 will likely be Karim Benzema's year to finally win the prestigious Ballon d'Or trophy. He is having a phenomenal season with Real Madrid, and the clamour for him to win the prize is starting to grow even if the awarding itself is still several months away.

Real Madrid need to score only just a single point from their remaining five games to claim the La Liga Santander title. The Egyptian senior national team skipper would be hoping to go two better than the last time after he finished third behind Paris Saint Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski in last year's edition of the FIFA Ballon d'Or award as revealed by the organisers last month. Poland international Lewandowski saw off Messi and Salah to win the award for the second year in a row.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has boosted his hopes of winning the FIFA Ballon d'Or award later this month after he hit a treble for his team during the away win over FC Koln in what was a German Bundesliga clash. Lewandowski increased his FIFA Ballon d'Or credentials with three goals to propel the Bavarian giants to a 4-0 win at the home of their opponents.

Robert Lewandowski is on the final three-man shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d'Or award for 2021 in men's football alongside Paris Saint Germain (PSG) star Lionel Messi and Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah.




BURNLEY: RONALDO LEADS UNITED TO SUCCESS

Portugal international captain Cristiano Ronaldo was the star man as Manchester United bounced back from the disappointing 1-1 result at Newcastle United to beat Burnley who are in the bottom three as far as the Premier League table is concerned. The Clarets occupy the bottom three slots at the moment alongside bottom club Norwich City and Newcastle United. Manchester United were able to bounce back with a 3-1 victory as Ronaldo boosted his chances of winning the FIFA Ballon d'Or.
